With Spring upon us, and the potential for a bountiful growing season just around the corner, Toronto food lovers and locavores alike have a lot to look forward to.
Not only do Ontario farmlands have the ability to produce a dizzying array of fruits, vegetables, and meats but these bounties are now available to Toronto urbanites at a scale never before seen.
Thanks to the established and still growing farmer's market scene in the city, and the newer rise of Community Supported Agriculture groups (CSAs), we now have access to a variety of foods that would make any food lover as excited as I am about the upcoming growing season...

I live alone so I also can't participate in a CSA but I do buy a Good Food Box from FoodShare which strives to buy as much locally as possible. You can purchase small and large boxes, organic or non-organic, as often as you'd like. I buy a small organic box each week but I think you could easily get by every second week. Have a look:

... I have a minestrone on my stove as we speak :) The GFB is just another way to support local farmers and the bonus is that it's offered all year long and is a bit more flexible. As well, as it's part of Food Share I'm supporting a non-profit in Toronto that initiates other activities such as the urban gardens and school breakfasts for over 20 000 kids.
