CBC Radio's Here and Now interview on Childhood Nutrition

Thursday, August 5, 2010

INTERVIEW: Teaching "Fooderacy" in schools
Obesity rates are soaring among youth in Canada, as are diabetes and other health problems rooted in bad eating habits.

Many people think it's time to use our schools to teach better nutrition -- not only through the curriculum, but also through the lunch menu.

It's time to do away with greasy, fatty cafeteria fare, say some, and bring local and fresh produce into schools.

And some want the federal government to help.

Meredith Hayes is the manager of FoodShare Toronto's Field to Table Schools and Youth Engagement programs.

She joined Here and Now in studio.
